Ingredients (yields servings)

  • 1 recipe pizza dough, homemade or packaged (1 lb.)
  • 4 oz. each, sliced: Mortadella, Provolone, Ham, Genoa Salami
  • one egg, lightly beaten

Cooking Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large circle. Layer the cold cuts down the center in a straight line, leaving a few inches at the top and bottom. There should be several inches left on each side.

Fold the dough to completely enclose the cold cuts. Start with the sides and then do the top and bottom. Press the seams together and seal. You should have a rectangle.

Lightly oil a rimmed baking sheet. Place the calzone, seam side down, on the baking sheet. Brush with the beaten egg.

Bake 25-30 minutes, or until lightly golden.

My friend Jill made this for my family when my daughter was born. We were so impressed that I had to get her to teach me how to make it!

The possibilities are endless: spinach and feta, tomatoes and cheese, roasted veggies and cheese, meatballs, eggplant...make a bunch of different kinds, toss a salad, invite some friends over and open the wine. Instant party!
