Ingredients (yields Serves 4 servings)

  • 1 tablespoons Finely chopped shallots
  • 2 tablespoons Mayo
  • 1 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 teaspoons Chile paste or dried chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoons Wasabi paste or powder
  • 1 lbs Sushi grade tuna, chopped into 1/4 in cubes
  • 1/2 wholes Haas avocado, cubed
  • 1/2 cups Chopped cucumber
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoons Fresh ground pepper
  • 1 tablespoons Black sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Combine shallots, mayo, honey, chile paste/powder, sesame oil, soy sauce and wasabi in a glass bowl. Stir well to mix ingredients. Fold in tuna cubes and chopped cucumber. Carefully fold in avocado and season with salt or pepper. Sprinkle black sesame seeds on top.

You can serve the tartar by itself, on a plate with wonton chips for dipping or in homemade wonton cups.

Serve immediately.

I used .58 lbs tuna with all the same quantities of everything else, and it was perfect. Could have easily served 4 people (but two of us polished it off!). I served it over rice -- formed the rice with a measuring cup and then the tuna mixture on top.
